South Carolina Greenwood County Ware Shoals
Ware Shoals is located in the northern tip of
Greenwood County on the banks of the Saluda River. Parts of town are also in
Laurens County and in
Abbeville County.
In the 1800s people would come to this place on the river to sit on the large rocks – or shoals – to picnic, fish, and just generally enjoy nature's beauty. In time, a Mr. Ware built a gristmill at the site so it became known as Ware's Shoals, and was eventually shortened to Ware Shoals.
