Pawleys Island is located just 25 miles south of Myrtle Beach along the southernmost stretch of South Carolina's "Grand Strand."

Although the island claims to be "the oldest seaside resort in America," there certainly aren't many traces of commercialism. Pawleys Island is home to one of the most wonderfully undeveloped public beaches in South Carolina and is known for its "arrogantly shabby" way of life. Days on the island are slow and relaxed, and locals work hard to keep it that way.

The island is strictly residential, so you won't find any hotels here – just vacation rentals. The majority of the area's accommodations are located on the mainland, which is also considered Pawleys Island.

The mainland is connected to the island by the North Causeway and the South Causeway, both of which connect with US 17. Here you'll find championship golf courses, great restaurants, and unique shopping.

Murrells Inlet is just a short drive up US 17, so make sure to check out beautiful Brookgreen Gardens and Huntington Beach State Park as well!

The island can be divided into three sections: the South End, the Historic District, and the North End.

The South End is home to the island's largest parking lot and public beach access, so it's a popular spot for tourists.

Located in the middle of the island, the historic district consists of 12 antebellum summer homes – several of which date back to the 1700s.

The North End, which lies just across the inlet from Litchfield Beach, is usually quieter and is a favorite among locals. Here you'll find smaller, almost hidden public accesses tucked in between large vacation homes.
