South Carolina Georgetown County Murrells Inlet
This fishing village located on the northern coastline of
Georgetown County has long enjoyed a reputation for excellent
local restaurants.
In the 1800s, visitors to Murrells Inlet traveled from
Conway or
Georgetown down the Intracoastal Waterway by steamboat . The steamboats became well known for the tasty meals they served on board. Several former steamboat cooks settled in Murrells Inlet and opened restaurants. Ever since, the area has attracted local restaurant owners and, of course, diners from near and far.
Georgetown is the largest city in Murrells Inlet's own county, but
Myrtle Beach, across the
Horry County line is just 16 miles to the north on US 17. Here are maps of the
Georgetown area and of the
Myrtle Beach area.
