South Carolina Newberry County Little Mountain
Little Mountain is located in the southeastern portion of
Newberry County.
The name comes from its location on a unique geological formation known as a monadnock. This is an islolated mountain or rock that has resisted the process of erosion and stands alone in an otherwise flat area.
The town was originally known as Ruff Mountain and it was located in
Lexington County. Records show the name of Little Mountain was used when a post office was established in 1852. The present boundary betweeen Newberry and Lexington counties was established in 1917.
