South Carolina Edgefield County Johnston
Johnston is located in
Edgefield County. It was founded in 1870 with the arrival of the railroad and named for W.P. Johnston, president of the Charlotte, Columbia, and Augusta Railroad.
Located on a fertile plateau about 30 miles long between clay hills to the north and sand hills to the south, peaches are grown in abundance. Johnston's nickname is the "The Peach Capital of the World."
