Major Events and Accomplishments, 1st term, 1903–1905
- February 13, 1903 – The General Assembly passed the state's first child labor law, making it illegal for any child under ten years of age to work in a factory, mine, or mill
- June 6, 1903 – More than sixty people died when the Pacolet River flooded
- The General Assembly passed the Brice Act, allowing individual counties to choose not to participate in the liquor dispensary system
