SC Governors – John Peter Richardson, 1840-1842South Carolina SC History SC Governors Governor John Peter Richardson John P. RichardsonJohn Peter Richardson was the son of John Peter Richardson, Esq (1772-1811) and Floride Bonneau Peyre (1722-1844). There is some confusion as to his name's suffix because he appears to have used neither "Jr" nor "II" during his lifetime. His son, John P. Richardson, III, also served as South Carolina's governor and also did not use a suffix. In general, male children are labeled "Jr" (for Junior) when they share the exact same name as their father, so long as the latter is still alive. If they are named for another relative, then they are labeled the II. While neither suffix is mandatory, for the purpose of clarity this particular John Peter Richardson is often referred to as John Peter Richardson, Jr.
