South Carolina Orangeburg County North
North is located in
Orangeburg County at the junction of US 321 and US 178. It was established in 1891 when John F. North, Samson A. Livingston, and George W. Pou each donated 100 acres of land for a town and a railroad depot. The town was named in honor of John F. North, the oldest of the three donors.
Eartha Kitt, the versatile 20th-century entertainer best known for her 1953 recording of
Santa Baby and her recurring role as Catwoman on TV's
Batman, was born on a North farm in 1927.
