Fort Jackson is located in northeastern
Columbia, near where I-77 intersects with I-20. It was established in 1917 to train soldiers for World War I. Today it is the largest and most active Initial Entry Training Center in the United States Army, providing training to almost 50 percent of the men and women who enter this branch of the service each year.
