South Carolina York County Clover
Clover is located in the northwestern portion of
York County. Legend holds that the town got its start in the late 1800s when a small cluster of homes were built around a 5,000-gallon water tank. The water tank supplied the steam engines of the Chester and Lenoir Railroad Narrow Gauge Railroad.
Large clover patches grew where excess water spilled on the ground, and residents affectionately referred to the area as just that – Clover Patch.
The annual Clover Kinntra Festival celebrates Scottish heritage and a sister-city in Larne, County Antrim, Ireland. It honors the area's original Scots-Irish settlers who emigrated here in the 1700s.
