South Carolina Georgetown County | Williamsburg County Andrews
Andrews is a small town with a population of just under 3,000. It is located about 20 minutes inland from
Georgetown and straddles both the
Georgetown County and
Williamsburg County lines.
The towns of Rosemary and Harpers Crossroads were settled along the Georgetown and Western Railroad around 1886. In the early 1900s, Mr. Walter H. Andrews persuaded the Seaboard Air Line Railroad to not only bring a route through the towns but also to locate a large maintenance shop there. The two small communities, now connected by the rail line, combined and took the name of Walter Andrews. He served as mayor throughout most of the 1920s.
Actor and comedian Chris Rock was born in Andrews.
