Walhalla, South Carolina – Oconee Station
|
These two stone houses once marked the forefront of western expansion in South Carolina. First used as a military outpost in the 1790s to guard against attacks by the Cherokee Indians, the site was later used as a trading post. Steven Faucette of Williamston contributed this shot. Check out more of his photos at Steven Faucette Photography.
Oconee Station State Historic Site is less than ten miles from Walhalla off of SC 11. The site also includes Station Cove Falls, which is accessible by a half-mile hike from the parking lot.
