Shem Creek, South Carolina – Shrimp Boats at Dusk

As the ships come in at dusk with their haul, the pace of the day slows. The majestic shrimp boats are left to bask in the sunset while the captains of the fleet head home. The boats represent a day full of labor and food on the table.

Chuck Morris got the idea for this painting while puttering around in a john boat on Shem Creek near the Old Village in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The scene as captured from the water line shows the magnitude of the boats as they rest against the dock.
